A family-owned business based in Copenhagen, Denmark, Nording Pipes prides themselves on innovation, quality and passion. Qualities that go into every Danish pipe, tobacco and cigar they create.
Nording Pipes History
Erik Nording did not grow up dreaming of being a pipe maker. Instead, he went to school to be a blacksmith and engineer and ultimately his ease around machines is what created his door into the tobacco and pipe world.
By the time he graduated, Erik was an expert pipe smoker, spending time at another Copenhagen shop, W.O. Larsens. There he would have his pipes repaired by Skovbo, who did have ambitions to own his own pipe shop. With Skovbo’s knowledge of pipes and Erik’s ability to make the machines they needed, Skovbo and Erik entered into business together. A few years later Erik took over, creating Nording Pipes.
He began creating specialized and creative pipes that started to take hold in the industry. As demand grew, Erik would eventually expand his one-man show, still staying true to quality, innovation and passion.
Creating Danish Fancy Pipes
Nording has created more freehand pipes than any other pipe maker in the industry. This creativity has led to some interesting and innovating lines of pipes.
Freehand Pipes. Created as an alternative to the traditional English, French and Italian pipes. The Freehand line uses plateau wood, following the natural grain while working with natural defects.
Handmade Pipes. The Handmade line is just that, handmade. Erik still claims that “to this day, there is nothing more thrilling than creating something A to Z.”
Hunter Pipes. The Hunter Pipe line is a collaboration with Danish illustrator Mr. Mogens Anderson. Each year, the line introduces a new animal into the collection. Each pipe comes with an original drawing and a short explanation of the inspirations behind that year’s animal selection.
Hold ‘Em Pipes. Art and function meet with the Hold ‘Em Line. Named the Jack, Queen, King, Ace and Joker, each pipe in the collection is unique.
Valhalla Pipes. The inspiration for the elite Valhalla line comes from the Valhalla banquet hall in Nordic mythology. It is said that heroes who died in combat would be taken to the hall to drink, smoke and party with the Gods. Made from only the finest briars available, the Valhalla’s signature colors are deep-red, light brown and an orange stain giving it a rich and godly appearance.
Erickson Keystone Pipes. It’s the filter system pipe with all the benefits of a briar pipe. Ideal for the outdoorsman or outdoorswoman, the Erickson Keystone Pipe uses absorbent volcanic, clay pellets that capture excess condensation leaving your tobacco dry even in the humid, outdoor air.
The Sailor. It’s the Danish version of a poker pipe with all the quality and innovation Nording Pipes has to offer.
The Shorty. Wherever life takes you, take it. A shorter, smaller version of the classic smoking pipe, the Shorty offers a 20 minute smoke time and can be easily kept in a pocket or purse.
Nording and Rocky Patel Cigars
Nording Pipes and Rocky Patel have combined to create the Rocky Patel Nording cigar collection–and it does not disappoint. The collection has consistently scored high, including a 9.8 rating from Smoke Magazine as well as rated the highest non-Cuban cigar in Cigar Aficionado.
The smoke starts bright and citrusy before transitioning into a woodsy taste followed by cornbread sweetness and boasts a medium-bodies and medium flavor. The Rocky Patel and Nording collaboration includes the Rocky Patel Nording 50th Anniversary, Rocky Patel Nording Robusto, Rocky Patel Nording Toro, Rocky Patel Nording Toro Grande and Rocky Patel Nording Torpedo cigars.
Other Nording Products
Never one to stop creating, Nording Pipes offers more than the average pipe maker.
– Keystones. Featured in their Keystone Pipes, Nording Keystone filters can be purchased and used separately. Created from highly absorbent clay pellets, the filters remove humidity and condensation from your tobacco. When used with a traditional pipe, the tobacco is lifted from the bottom of the bowl to avoiding blocking the airflow.
– Pipe Tobacco. With all this time spent testing their own pipes, Nording also found four tobaccos that appeal to them.
The Nording Hunter Blend Beagle is a classic dark and rich Virginia flake.
The Nording Hunter Blend Fox Hound offers a mild English-style smoke with a smooth and seductive aroma.
For a smooth, fragrant and classic blend with hints of caramel and hazelnut, try the Nording Hunter Blend Labrador.
The fourth tobacco, the Nording Hunter Blend Pointer, if a blend of the best Virginia and Burley tobaccos that boasts a mellow and satisfying flavor.
Nording Pipes is more than the classic pipe maker. With quality, hand-made pipes, highly-rated cigars and innovative filters and tobaccos, they have used their skill and love of pipes to create a unique smoking experience. Check out their products at our Nottingham Tobacco Shops to see for yourself.
