Itching to try something new? Good news! In the past few weeks we have stocked Five new Cuban Cigars from Habanos S.A. waiting to be smoked. And with our designation of Habanos Specialists—we can tell you they are good.
Habanos S.A.
The Habanos S.A. is the branch of the Cuban state tobacco company responsible for the promotion, distribution and export of Cuban cigars. Habanos roughly translates to “from Havana.” To know you are getting the best from Cuba (and not a counterfeit) keep an eye out for the Habanos S.A. mark—in fact to reduce fraud and counterfeiting, Habanos S.A. follows a tradition of exporting to one company or distributor in each country.
Romeo y Julieta Capuletos Edicion Limitada 2016
Released in September in Italy as a nod to its namesake and history, the Romeo y Julieta Capuleta Edicion Limitada brings something new to the Habanos’ portfolio—the Sobresalientes factory vitola. With a ring gauge 53 x 153mm long and the classically mild to strong flavor with a balanced and scented blend, it’s a Habanos classic, but in a new format.
Cohiba Medio Siglo
A tribute to Habanos 50th anniversay, the Cohbia Medio Siglo pays homage to two classic violtas: the Cohiba Siglo VI and Cohiba Silo I. Borrowing the Siglo VI’s width and the Siglo’s I length, the Medio Siglo has a ring gauge 52 x 120mm length and delivers the taste and complexity in a clipped format, boasting a 30 minute smoke time.
Trinidad Topes
With the second thickest ring gauge in the brand after the Trinidad Vigia, the Topes follows the trend of rounding out the traditional portfolio with references to thick gauges. At a ring gauge 56 x 125mm length and delivering a mildly, strong flavor with finesse and subtly, the Topes is a one-of-a-kind in the Habanos portfolio.
H. Upmann Magnum 54
The H. Upmann Magnum 54 stays true to the brand and traditional tastes. With a ring gauge 54 x 120mm length, this cigar has a refined and elegant blend of mild strength character typical of the brand. It’s tradition, but at a new length.
Montecristo Special 80 Aniversario
The Montecristo 80 Aniversario vitola is unique (55 ring gauge x 165 mm in length) and its blend, which has a special strength, has been created for smokers who enjoy intense flavours.
This commemorative edition, comprising 30,000 units, is presented in an exclusive, uniquely designed box of 20 Habanos, each bearing bands with a gold finish especially for this occasion.
Ring Gauges and Lengths
A little lost when it comes to ring gauge and lengths? It all comes down to preference. With the flavor and strength rooted in the cigars tobacco and wrapper, the size is a stylistic choice. The ring gauge refers to the cigars diameter with each ring being equal to 1/64 of an inch. For example the 56 ring gauge of the Trinidad Topes is equivalent to 56/64th of an inch in diameter. The length can vary greatly, but generally comes down to smoke time—the longer the cigar, the longer the smoke.
